These two things we keep hearing from customers drove the latest version of our Explorer Suite, which we launched today during our first North America Customer Symposium taking place in Dallas. With this release we are the first independent software vendor to offer management visibility into Segment Routing. We’ve also added new service dashboards and guided workflows to help engineering and operations groups understand the composition of services, determine how they are performing, and troubleshoot them faster.
Service providers are exploring Segment Routing more and more lately as a way to speed up software-defined networking (SDN) deployments and simplify MPLS traffic engineering. In a network with a large number of RSVP-TE tunnels, using Segment Routing can translate into significant operational savings and reduced risk of misconfigurations.
Whether operators are deploying tunnels for the first time or seeking to migrate from RSVP-TE to Segment Routing, the new Explorer Suite helps mitigate the risk. We enable operators to monitor and manage all of their TE tunnels and segments from one place, in context with the rest of the network.
Also, our SDN-TE application now fully supports Segment Routing tunnel creation. Users can select whether to deploy using RSVP-TE or SR-TE.
Customers also drove our new L2 & L3 VPN service dashboards and guided troubleshooting workflows. We work with some of the largest service providers in the world, and some tell us that they receive up to 20,000 trouble tickets per month. What’s more, up to 80 percent of those are closed with no trouble found. The reason is that by the time an operator investigates an issue, it often has resolved itself.
These types of transitory issues are costly, because they take up valuable time and also degrade customer satisfaction and cause turnover. Our updates to the Explorer Suite’s Route Explorer and Performance Explorer products will help operators resolve more of these trouble tickets. They will be able to better understand the performance and availability of services and drill in to the root cause of issues. For instance, we have extended our “network DVR” capability to replay the behavior of a specific path between two endpoints, including overlay services, such as a L2/L3 VPNs or TE tunnels.
