MPLS VPN Redundancy Analysis

Some MPLS VPN customer site Customer Edge (CE) routers are configured with redundant connections to MPLS VPN Provider Edge (PE) routers for greater service assurance. In order to ensure that the primary will failover properly to the secondary connection, a routing redundancy analysis can be performed using route analytics technology to model and simulate the failure of the primary CE to PE BGP routing peering. Since route analytics precisely captures the real-time state of the network's operational routing state, simulating a failure state is highly accurate. Managers can be assured that primary to secondary routing will work properly in a failure scenario.

Packet Design's Route Explorer provides unprecedented visibility and analysis features for BGP routing. Route Explorer's BGP route analytics features include:

  • BGP RIB Visualization -- See a graphic illustration of your multi AS-hop BGP topology
  • BGP Event History Navigation -- Move back in time to analyze past BGP event streams exactly as they happened
  • BGP Root Cause Analysis -- Automated the analysis of hundreds of thousands of BGP events to discover the true BGP root cause event(s)

Packet Design's VPN Explorer delivers per MPLS VPN layer 3 and routing reachability and PE membership baselining, monitoring and analysis, as well as core network IGP/BGP route analysis and modeling. VPN Explorer helps Service Providers and large enterprises deploying their own MPLS VPN core network to effectively manage the complex, virtualized routing deployed to support MPLS VPN services to their customers.
