PACKET DESIGN EXPANDS EUROPEAN SALES/SUPPORT TEAM Move Driven by Strong Demand for Route Analytics from Service Providers PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct 9, 2007 – Packet Design, a pioneer in route analytics technology for managing large IP networks, has expanded its European sales and support team in a move aimed at addressing significant market growth in the area, notably among service providers. James Clegg has been named sales manager for Northern Europe, and Peter Emptage senior network consultant. Both are based in the London area and report to Steve Ruddock, Packet Design's sales director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Steve Ackley, Packet Design vice president of worldwide sales, said, "Because of the growth in network size and complexity – and the associated need to understand network problems and their causes more rapidly than ever – route analytics has crossed the chasm from an interesting technology to a necessary one. As a result, our business in the European service provider community is booming. EMEA overall is growing more than 100 percent per year, with individual deals increasing in size and consuming more of the sales process. This has driven our need for a larger locally-based sales and support team." Clegg comes to Packet Design with more than 15 years of experience in sales management to the telecommunications industry. Most recently he was regional director for northern Europe with Nominum, Inc., a startup specializing in IP address infrastructure software. He had previously held the same title with Crossbeam Systems, a unified network security technology provider. Clegg has also served as sales manager for Sun Microsystems, strategic accounts sales director for JYRA Research, and global account manager for Bay Networks. Emptage has been involved in architecting, designing and troubleshooting some of the world's largest enterprise and service provider networks during his more than two decades in the IT business. Prior to his most recent position as a senior consultant with ThruPoint Ltd., he spent 12 years with Cisco Systems as a senior consulting engineer reporting to the Office of the CTO. Previously he had been a support specialist with Chipcom Ltd. and a manager of third-party software with Hewlett Packard. About Packet Design, Inc. Packet Design, Inc., pioneered the field of route analytics and is the leading supplier of network appliances that provide routing-layer visibility into IP networks. The company's flagship products are Route Explorer, which creates an accurate layer 3 topology map and analyzes routing events to let network engineers quickly pinpoint and resolve routing and other network problems; and Traffic Explorer, which integrates traffic-flow information with real-time routing data to provide the first end-to-end, "topology-aware" view of network traffic. Packet Design products today help manage networks in global enterprises – including financial, retail and pharmaceutical firms – as well as educational institutions, government agencies, and the world's largest service providers. Packet Design, Inc., was spun out in March 2003 from Packet Design, LLC, the fourth networking company started by entrepreneurs Judy Estrin and Bill Carrico, who previously founded Bridge Communications, Network Computing Devices and Precept Software.
