PACKET
DESIGN NAMES CENGIZ ALAETTINOGLU
PALO ALTO, Calif., April 30, 2007 – Packet Design, Inc., the leader in the field of route analytics technology for managing large IP networks, has named Dr. Cengiz Alaettinoglu chief technology officer. He reports to Packet Design CEO Jack Bradley . Dr. Alaettinoglu has been a Fellow on Packet Design's technical staff since the company's formation in 2003. Previously he was with the University of Southern California's Information Sciences Institute, where he worked on the Routing Arbiter project. He was co-chair of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Routing Policy System Working Group, and has lectured and published widely at industry technical conferences and workshops. "Not only has Cengiz been a thought leader in the development of Packet Design's pioneering route analytics products," Bradley said, "but through his work with the IETF he is involved in many ongoing developments that have had or will have a significant industry-wide impact on networking technology. He has always been the 'go-to' person on our team who determines the critical or difficult areas early and architects innovative solutions, while at the same time exhibiting a deep understanding of our customers' networks and the ability to come up with novel ways of addressing their management needs." A resident of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Alaettinoglu, 40, holds a B.S. degree in computer engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Maryland at College Park. About Packet Design, Inc. Packet Design, Inc., pioneered the field of route analytics and is the leading supplier of network appliances that provide routing-layer visibility into IP networks. The company's flagship products are Route Explorer, which creates an accurate layer 3 topology map and analyzes routing events to let network engineers quickly pinpoint and resolve routing and other network problems; and Traffic Explorer, which integrates traffic-flow information with real-time routing data to provide the first end-to-end, "topology-aware" view of network traffic. Packet Design products today help manage networks in global enterprises – including financial, retail and pharmaceutical firms – as well as educational institutions, government agencies, and the world's largest service providers. Packet Design, Inc., was spun out in March 2003 from Packet Design, LLC, the fourth networking company started by entrepreneurs Judy Estrin and Bill Carrico, who previously founded Bridge Communications, Network Computing Devices and Precept Software.
