See routing topology anomalies at-a-glance

With Route Explorer’s topology map, you can quickly seepossible single points of failure, failed links and routers, and other routinganomalies. Figure 1illustrates a network with a potential single point of failure and reducedredundancy.

Route Explorer’s Online Monitor (see Figure2)shows routing changes as they occur. The history of events and summary statistics for the past 10 minutes (aselectable interval) can alert an engineer to potential route floods or cascadeoutages. All IGPs and BGP domainscan be monitored.

HOW TO:

1. Open the “DemoEnterpriseAMar03” topology and look for down links shown in red.
2. Look for parts of the network routed through a single router (square or hexagon) or LAN (circle).
3. Open another topology on your network that is currently recording data.
4. Open the online monitor, if not opened by default: click on Tools->Online Update Monitor
5. Look for high event counts in bar graph
6. Look for high numbers of route announcements and withdrawals.
